Since the topic comes up regularly, and both Blizzard and NCSoft hate our team name.
And since it's hard to discuss the subject without actual examples, those with sensitive eyes should turn away from this topic.

What aspect of cussing would you like to discuss?

I think the issue stems from the beholders idea of censorship, which has alot to do with their culture and religious beliefs. Ass is listed in most dictionaries which IMO makes it fair enough to use.
If GW only had an E at the end we may have had a leg to stand on. Guild Warse.

FYI, they banned one of my accounts over my name and I got nowhere arguing with them about it.
Ms. Cornholio was banned as being an offensive name.
They really need to get a grip.

Ass is a body part or a "burro".
In both cases it's something you sit on.
VERY little of the obscene language used has a meaning. If you ask them to define the word there is usually a confused silence. Looked at in context the word has no meaning other than to show disrespect. What egos. As if anyone gives a flying....
.....um........well, as if anyone cares what they respect or don't respect.
Exceptions might be involuntary, impromptu, unrehearsed exclamations. Hard to say what the word means there. Still nothing I would say.
And of course many harmless words can become obscene if used correctly (incorrectly???).
I think it comes down to attitude and intent.
Thats my 2 bits.

Anybody watch Battlestar Galactica? I find it hysterical the way they can cuss like sailors (literally) in plain sight, because they use BG cusswords instead of American ones. Frackin' A!

Blizzard doesn't ban names because they don't like them. Someone esle has to report your name for them to care.

I really don't like cussing. I very rarely do it except when i get hurt or in a fire or something like that, and usually feel guilty about it. Its amazing to me how much censorship there is now a days. Who determines what is a good word and a bad word? Who sets the moral standard? A gaming company? When will it be that someone complains that our charachters are improperly dressed? There are too many hypersensitive players out there.

My brother's roommate recently had created a new account on WoW called mr_aimbot, and less than 90 seconds after it was created he was kickbanned with the stated reason being for using thirdparty bot software, going simply off of his name, and nothing else. It took him quite a bit of arguing to get his account unfroze, but he wasnt allowed to use that character anymore.
In a way, its really surprising how anal people are about cussing. You have one spectrum of gamers where they cannot say something without cussing, and on the other side, you have others who cannot bear to hear the most benign of words or phrases, even if they are used in a non offensive context.

As someone who doesn't "read" people, I find the subjectiveness of this very obnoxious.
What particularly grates is the kick/bans for language on our servers, or complaints filed by our members, followed by a banning of our team name by others with similar power. Pot calling the kettle black?

Maybe cussing is frowned upon in games/internet , could be because when you are gaming or at a computer you can not see the other person or people. When you can see the people in front of you, it is easier to make a personal judgement on weather cussing is appropriate or not.
Maybe 8 months ago tribalwar removed the cuss filter from there forums, the result is mixed. certainly it is abused by some, but sometimes when reading a post a cuss word translates the author in a way that seems natural.
I was not allowed to cuss as a child. My mother actualy invited 5 or 6 of my childhood pals inside to watch her shove soap in my mouth. She also carried a bottle of tobasco in her purse just in case of mouthiness. all she had to do was put a hand on her purse and I would zip it!
cussing should be allowed on the net and moderated on an individual basis by parents or wow, or whomever cares to. People who cuss neadlessly only end up making themself look like a jackass.

When I was younger, I wasn't allowed to cuss, with the exception being repeating something when I was quoting someone (and even then there was limits, and I couldnt just quote for the hell of it). When I was 13 or so, I was allowed to start cussing more, and say some of the old family sayings.

couldn't agree with you more monk. Personally I think people who go around swearing their heads off are just idiots, and my parents never let me do it. My oldest brother is 23, and while he can make his own choices, my parents still don't like it if he really starts swearing. The same goes for me, around my friends, its not so bad, but around anybody else, you use some apropriate language.
