I highly recommend using noscript with Firefox. You can enable JavaScript only for sites that really need it, while disabling it for all the advertisement sites that your desirable sites use. So you can enable Thottbot, for example, while blocking JavaScript from its ads.
Meanwhile, find the file under c:\Windows called "hosts", open in notepad, and add the two lines above to it. This will block all access to those two sites, so you can't accidentally download and install their virus.
